Peter Dornan AM named QLD Senior Australian of the Year

Letter to the Editor
November 12, 2019

Dear Editor,

I want to personally acknowledge and congratulate Peter Dornan AM for being named the 2020 QLD Senior Australian of the Year.

Following a prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, Peter put an ad in the newspaper, inviting fellow patients to meet.

Since then Peter’s commitment to helping men share experiences and seek support has helped create a culture change in the treatment management for men with prostate cancer.

He has also worked to reduce the burden of cancer in the community more broadly, having acted as a Director of Cancer Council Queensland since 2011.

Peter has also seen professional success during his 50 years’ working in the field of sports medicine. He cofounded the Queensland Branch of Sports Medicine Australia and is a foundation fellow of the Australian Sports Medicine Foundation.

My deepest thanks go to Peter for generously giving his time so that Cancer Council Queensland can best support the 29,000 Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer each year.

We are delighted that your dedication to the community, your field and passions has been recognised.

Ms Chris McMillan
CEO, Cancer Council Queensland
