Cancer is the leading cause of death in Australia today. There is an urgent need to develop new knowledge and ways to put that knowledge into everyday practice to prevent cancer and improve the survival and quality of life of people diagnosed with cancer. Research is the key.

The Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control conducts collaborative research in cancer control with a focus on issues of importance to Queenslanders. The research conducted within the Centre will enhance and build on the best knowledge available in cancer control today, then take that knowledge and translate it into effective, state-wide programs for cancer prevention, early detection and improved patient services for the people of Queensland and beyond.

Within The Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control, there are five key areas of research: Descriptive Epidemiology Research Program, Survivorship and Quality of Life Research Program, Evaluation and Development Program, the Prostate Cancer Research Program, and the Skin Cancer Research Program
