Volunteer

Volunteers play an important role in our mission to create a cancer free future.

Our volunteers help us provide cancer-related information, support services and education programs throughout Queensland and help implement our fundraising campaigns in their local areas.

Our process

Our volunteers are treated with the same respect as paid staff, and are offered positions that best recognise their skills and personal preferences. Volunteers are provided with support and training to perform their chosen tasks.  All volunteers are required to attend an orientation session, featuring an organisational overview and an introduction to volunteering.

Many of our volunteer roles do not require any additional training but some roles require particular skills, specialist training and/or experience

Branches

Our branch volunteers implement our programs and activities in their community. This includes fundraising, prevention and early detection, and patient and community services.

Whether in Ingham or Ipswich, branch volunteers make it possible for people to participate in a variety of activities and build our profile in their area. They help develop strong cancer control and support networks throughout Queensland.

Branch members meet regularly and are structured to include a chairperson, office bearers and other voluntary members.

C-vivor - An active cancer support program

Cancer Council Queensland has a free physical activity program for Queenslanders affected by cancer. The program, known as c-vivor, includes a diverse range of low-intensity, highly-social activities designed to enhance quality of life by helping cancer survivors stay healthy.

The program connects people in the community who have been affected by cancer through a weekly activity such as walking, swimming or a social outing. C-vivor groups are led by volunteers who are themselves cancer survivors, so that all participants share a common connection and understanding.

C-vivor is an excellent volunteering opportunity for cancer survivors who are passionate about people and who want to make a difference in the lives of other Queenslanders affected by cancer.

The following volunteer roles are available:

Volunteer Group Leaders: Lead a weekly C-vivor group activity in your community

Volunteer Regional Co-ordinators: Be the point of contact between C-vivor groups in your region, community and Cancer Council Queensland.

All C-vivor volunteers will be supported with skills training for the role. To learn more, call us on 3634 5297 or go to www.c-vivor.org.au

Corporate volunteering

Why not get involved in our corporate volunteering program?

Businesses who sign up for corporate volunteering encourage staff to volunteer in the not-for-profit sector.

Our volunteers are dedicated to our cause, and we value their contribution to the campaign against cancer.

There are many ways businesses can get involved in corporate volunteering, such as individual, team, or whole-of-company volunteering. You may like to volunteer for just one day, or more regularly, like once a month.

At Cancer Council Queensland, we welcome and encourage corporate volunteering. If you're interested in finding out more, we'd like to hear from you.
