Building on Hope

Helping Regional Patients Access Life-Saving Services

Alarmingly, Queenslanders who live outside SEQ or in disadvantaged areas are less likely to be alive after a five year cancer diagnosis.

Right now, Cancer Council Queensland is unable to accommodate around 1,500 regional cancer patients each year who travel to Brisbane to undergo treatment.

Our existing accommodation facility in Herston is unable to cope with demand. We also provide accommodation Lodges in Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns.

These lodges provide a home-away-from-home for cancer patients at no cost. This ensures patients are not financially disadvantaged by having to pay for accommodation during treatment. It is a time which often takes them away from their family and work for months at a time.

Our immediate priority is to complete a new Brisbane accommodation lodge located in Edmondstone Street, South Brisbane. Scheduled to open in April 2013, the Lodge will provide regional cancer patients with access to life-saving cancer services and help ease the financial and emotional strain that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis.

We urgently need your support. Please click on the link below for more information about our new South Brisbane Lodge or donate now, call our Donor Hotline on 1300 663 936.
