Our 50 year heritage of supporting patients

Your donations provide hope that we can win the fight against cancer, funding vital research, services and support for cancer patients. We currently have three accommodation and support lodges for patients who have to travel away from home for treatment, in Brisbane, Rockhampton, and Townsville, with two new lodges opening in Toowoomba and Cairns later this year.

Our accommodation and support lodges are crucial to cancer survival in Queensland, enabling regional patients to access life-saving services. We opened our first accommodation lodge for regional patients in 1983, the Charles Wanstall Apex Lodge in Brisbane. Since its opening, the lodge has provided a home away from home for nearly 9,500 patients.

This year, once we open our two new lodges in Toowoomba and Cairns, all five lodges combined will amount to an annual investment in running costs of nearly $3 million, helping cancer patients access life-saving cancer diagnostic and treatment services.

All five lodges combined will provide 73,000 bed nights per year to patients and carers, at no cost, easing the financial strain that many patients experience.

At the average market rate applied for similar style accommodation, the accommodation we provide represents a direct contribution to cancer patients of more than $5 million each year. These figures make it clear that our lodges provide a significant source of both financial and emotional relief for many thousands of cancer patients. And we couldn’t do it without the generosity of supporters like you, who believe in our vision for a cancer free future!
