Information contained in this website
Queensland Cancer Statistics Online (QCSOL) provides the most recent incidence, survival, mortality and prevalence data by gender (males, females and persons) for 22 of the most common cancers in Queensland. Graphs for males and females are provided on the results page, with links provided above the graphs to access the relevant data tables.
Navigating in QCSOL
Navigation through QCSOL is via the menu in the top left corner of the page. Make an initial selection from this menu, which will then generate a sub-menu for an additional selection, or take you straight to the results page. Your selection remains italicised in the menu while viewing graphs.
The results page
Buttons at the top of the results page provide links to relevant pages (Home, Methodology and Help) or options for viewing the data on which the graphs are based.
Data can be viewed in either in html format or by downloading a csv file to your computer. To download the csv file, just click on the button, and select “Save” in the pop-up box which appears. Clicking on the html table button opens the table in a new browser window.
Although graphs present data only for males and females, data for persons are also provided in the associated data tables.
National Health Priority Area cancers
More detailed information is provided for ‘all invasive cancers’ and National Health Priority Area (NHPA) cancers (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer - i.e. breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, melanoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and prostate). These additional data can be found in the following categories:
| Incidence | Trends over time | All invasive cancers (or NHPA cancer) | By age group | |||
| Mortality | Trends over time | All invasive cancers (or NHPA cancer) | By age group | |||
| Survival | Age Groups | All invasive cancers (or NHPA cancer) |
As monitoring trends in the screening target age groups is important, an additional category is provided for breast and cervical cancers. For breast cancer, women aged 50-69 years are in the target age group for receiving mammograms, while for cervical cancer, women aged 20-69 years are in the target age group for the papanicolaou (pap) smear test. Data for these age groups can be found under:
| Incidence | Trends over time | Breast or cervical cancer | By screening target age group | |||
| Mortality | Trends over time | Breast or cervical cancer | By screening target age group |
Data and methodology
Additional details regarding data sources, explanation of statistical terms and methods used, as well as the specific codes used for each cancer site, are available here. These are also available through the ‘Methodology’ button at the top of the results page.
