The Critic's Choice 2012

FREE interactive smoking prevention teaching resource

Cancer Council Queensland invites your school to participate in The Critics' Choice 2012.

The Critics' Choice is a free, interactive smoking prevention resource for upper primary and lower secondary schools. Students watch, critique and discuss smoking prevention advertisements and vote on the one most likely to prevent them from taking up smoking, or that most encourages them to quit.

The program runs from 31 May to 21 September, 2012 and schools are asked to compile their results and return the voting sheets to Cancer Council Queensland. All returned voting sheets will be entered into the draw to win fantastic prizes. Results of the vote will be published on www.OxyGen.org.au in Term 4.

The Critics' Choice 2012 Kit includes:

  • A DVD containing 12 smoking prevention television advertisements from all over the world. The advertisements raise the issue of smoking from a variety of perspectives.
  • A printable teacher's guide including lesson ideas to accompany the DVD. The lessons incorporate critical literacy activities that can be used in subjects such as Health and Physical Education, English and the Arts.
