Quit educator training

The Quit Educator Training is a two-day course that has been designed to equip workplace or community based health professionals with the skills to deliver smoking cessation courses and brief intervention counselling with individual clients or groups.

In addition to running group programs within the workplace, health professionals that are trained as Quit Educators will be equipped to carry out opportunistic brief intervention and make Quitline referrals people seeking additional support to quit. Trained Quit Educators build the capacity of workplaces to run ongoing group smoking cessation programs.
Benefits of having a Quit Educator in your company:

  • The Quit Educator can carry out a limitless number of group quit courses for your employees. This works out to be much more economical than engaging external educators to run ad-hoc courses.
  • The money saved can then be used to support other smoking cessation policies, like subsidising nicotine replacement therapy for employees who wish to quit.
  • There is ongoing onsite support for employees who are trying to quit
  • The Quit Educator can help implement a smoke-free policy at your workplace without any additional costs.
  • The Quit Educator is equipped to run activities to enhance the whole workplace's awareness of the effects of tobacco smoke. Ad-hoc courses only help selected employees who are ready to quit. Awareness activities reach many more employees, including those who are still undecided about quitting.

The cost of the two day course is $350 per participant (exc GST). Course materials and catering are included in this cost. Training will commence at 9am each day and conclude by 4pm.

Training dates and locations will be advertised here early 2012.

Independent Quit Educators

If your company does not have a workplace based health professional who can attend the Quit Educator Training, you may wish to engage independent quit educators who have attended the Cancer Council Queensland training.
