Queenslanders set to benefit from breast cancer education day
June 25, 2010
Cancer Council Queensland’s 33rd Annual Oncology Nurses Group Conference will for the first time during its two-day conference dedicate a full-day session to educating Queensland health professionals on the latest advancements and practices in breast cancer treatment.
The Conference’s first Health Professionals Breast Cancer Education Day will provide a forum for health professionals interested in cancer care to join their colleagues for professional development and networking and the opportunity to discuss issues regarding diagnostic procedures, treatment strategies and disease prevention.
Conference Organiser Bernadette Roberts said the Education Day will be a valuable addition to the conference program, addressing one of the most devastating types of cancer in Australian society.
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in Australia and the second most common cause of cancer death in Australian women.
“The program for the day will include the latest information on such topics as breast imaging technology, issues for young women, consumer advocacy, Indigenous issues and the disparity of outcomes between city and rural treatment options.
“Delegates can attend all or part of the day, in addition to the main conference program.
“As medical, nursing, allied health professionals and health workers, it’s important we are working together to control this devastating disease.
“We hope professionals attending the Education Day will take home a wealth of knowledge and contacts, which they can use to improve treatments and opportunities for women within their local communities who have recently been diagnosed or are currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer,” Ms Roberts said.
Registration for the Oncology Nurses Group Conference is open now and the closing date for submission of papers and travel grant applications has been extended to June 30.
The program for the Health Professionals Breast Cancer Education Day and the program for the main conference are available now.
The Conference will be held on September 9-10 at the Radisson Resort, Gold Coast.
