C-vivor is an exciting new program offered by Cancer Council Queensland in 2011
Do you want to meet new people and increase your fitness levels?
Over 21,000 Queenslanders are diagnosed with cancer each year, and of those diagnosed, 66 per cent will survive five or more years. As people diagnosed with cancer are living longer, the need to address quality of life, psychosocial and survivorship issues becomes ever more important. It’s for this reason Cancer Council Queensland has developed the c-vivor program to meet the needs of the cancer survivors in our communities. C-vivor brings together people in the community for weekly activities, such as walking, cycling or tai chi and is designed for people of all levels of fitness. Anyone who has ever had a cancer diagnosis can participate and enjoy the benefits of being a part of an active support group! Why participate in a c-vivor group? While the causes for many cancers remain unknown, lifestyle factors, including physical activity levels, are considered a contributing factor. Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy and people who are active often enjoy a greater quality of life.
The social and fun environment of c-vivor makes exercise enjoyable and encourages you to come every week to meet and build a network of friends and connect with others who have shared a cancer experience.
What is expected of me?
As a c-vivor group member, you are expected to turn up when you can and be sure to tell your group leader at least one day before the activity if you are unable to make it.
As everyone’s fitness levels will differ, the pace and frequency of the activity is something that needs to be agreed upon as a group with your group leader.
