Lymphoedema is swelling caused by a build-up of lymph.
Lymph is a watery fluid from the body tissues that contains infection fighting white blood cells. Lymphoedema occurs when there is not sufficient drainage in lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes. Lymphoedema can occur following some cancer treatments when the lymph glands are removed or when the lymph system is blocked by the cancer.
