Survivors flourish with new CCQ physical activity program

free physical activity program for QueenslandersCCQ has launched a free physical activity program for Queenslanders affected by cancer.

The exciting new program, known as c-vivor, includes a diverse range of low-intensity highly-social activities designed to enhance quality of life by helping cancer survivors stay healthy.

The program currently includes the craft of Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese practice which aligns breathing with meditation and gentle body movement.

C-vivor combines the known benefits of physical activity with the added advantages of social support in an innovative and fun program, for people at any stage of their cancer journey, and will suit all fitness levels.

The program brings together people who have been affected by cancer on a regular basis and is led by volunteers who are themselves cancer survivors, so that all participants share a common connection and understanding.

Research shows that support from social networks can be very beneficial for people battling cancer and for those who are adjusting to life after cancer.

C-vivor's innovative approach would also help cancer survivors to maintain a healthy lifestyle, to improve overall health and lower future risks of cancer.

Physical activity can help to reduce depression and anxiety, increase self-esteem, improve overall quality of life, and enhance general health and wellbeing.

This is a great program for all Queenslanders who have been affected by cancer.

The c-vivor program is also a great volunteering opportunity for cancer survivors who are passionate about people and who want to make a difference to help others in the fight against cancer

If you're interested in volunteering to be a Group Leader, or if you'd like more information about the program, go to www.c-vivor.org.au or call the Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20.
