RESPONSIBLE FOR
- The strategic development of Relay For Life events in the Townsville region through training, empowering and guiding volunteer committees to establish and grow events to achieve the agreed targets.
- Establishing relationships with key stakeholders and the public to promote Cancer Council Queensland through media interactions and attending public events.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Recruit, empower and manage volunteer committees to ensure that they have the necessary skills and resources to co-ordinate Relay For Life events.
- In consultation with the Community Events Manager, work with volunteers to achieve agreed strategic and operational goals for the region, including meeting fundraising budgets.
- Liaise with fundraising staff to implement, evaluate and report on new Relay For Life initiatives.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders and members of the public and educate them on Cancer Council Queensland.
- In partnership with volunteer committees, promote Relay For Life to the general public to increase participation in the event.
- Liaise with local media and the Cancer Council Queensland media team to implement media plans.
- Ensure that all Relay For Life and Cancer Council Queensland policies and procedures are adhered to by the volunteers.
- Attend volunteer committee meetings and information nights.
- Evaluate and report on events within the region.
- As a fundraising team member, where possible, support other fundraising campaigns in the region, including attending branch meetings.
- Conduct activities in accordance with Cancer Council Queensland policies, procedures and management instruction as and when required.
- Work collaboratively with the Relay For Life team in pursuit of the overall organisational mission.
- Work collaboratively with other members of Cancer Council Queensland to ensure support of and excellence in the delivery of all Cancer Council promotions and activities.
- Other duties as required or as assigned by the Community Events Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 12 months’ experience working in a special events/fundraising environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing, fundraising or public relations.
- Prior work experience with volunteers is highly regarded.
- Current Queensland Driver Licence required.
- Current Working with Children Blue Card or the ability to register for a Blue Card.
KEY SKILLS
- Ability to lead, motivate and encourage volunteers and fundraisers.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
- Strong customer relationship and public speaking skills.
- Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a positive, focused and timely manner, and the ability to address issues as they arise.
- Highly developed time management skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated achievement of key event milestones within agreed timeframes.
- Demonstrated experience in the Microsoft Office suit and databases.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment is essential.
- Knowledge of not-for-profit fundraising processes relating to events.
HOURS OF WORK
Required to work five days per week to cover business requirements of a 7.5 hour day and a 37.5 hour week. Work outside of these hours will be necessary depending on business requirements. Due to committee meetings this could be between 7am and 10.30pm on weekdays.
