RESPONSIBLE FOR
Providing psychological interventions and contributing to programs to promote the psychological adjustment of people affected by cancer.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Deliver a range of client-centred and evidence-based psychological interventions to people affected by cancer, including individual/couple telephone and face-to-face counselling and group interventions.
- Contribute to training and educational activities for local Cancer Council Queensland staff, health professionals and volunteers.
- Contribute to community support activities, working with community services colleagues to deliver cancer support programs in the region.
- Liaise and network with key stakeholders.
- Assist in evaluating and conducting quality assurance of the service.
- Conduct activities in accordance with Cancer Council Queensland policies, procedures and management instruction as and when required.
- Work collaboratively with all staff and volunteers of Cancer Council Queensland to ensure support of and excellence in delivery of all Cancer Council Queensland activities.
- Work collaboratively with the Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control team in pursuit of the overall organisational mission.
- Other duties as defined by the Executive Manager, Cancer Counselling Service.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Registration as a psychologist.
- Experience in clinical or counselling psychology – preferably in a health-related/oncology field.
- Postgraduate tertiary qualifications in psychology highly desirable.
KEY SKILLS
- Skills in the delivery of evidence-based telephone and/or face-to-face psychological interventions.
- Understanding of the psychological impact of cancer on individuals, spouses and families.
- Ability to deliver presentations to patients, health professionals and volunteers.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain constructive professional networks and liaise with other service providers.
- Proven ability to organise, manage and prioritise multiple tasks.
- Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal ‘on the ground’ supervision in order to undertake work in a regional office.
HOURS OF WORK
Required to work five days a week to cover business requirements of a 7.5 hour day and 37.5 hour week but may also be required to work outside normal business hours depending on business requirements. Travel between Brisbane and the Gold Coast will be required on a regular basis.
