Background: A/Prof Peter Baade heads the Descriptive Epidemiology Research Program within the Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control. Peter also holds an adjunct Associate Professor appointment at the School of Public Health, Queensland University of Technology. He has a PhD in the area of Social and Preventive Medicine from the University of Queensland, and prior to working at Cancer Council Queensland was employed as a senior statistician in a government health department. Peter is a Chief Investigator on two current and one successfully completed NHMRC Project Grants, two current Cancer Australia grants, and other externally competitively funded studies. He has published over 60 research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals, along with leading or co-authoring six large monographs describing patterns of cancer in Queensland. Peter is an accredited statistician (Astat) with the Statistical Society of Australia.

Research interests: To describe the patterns of cancer outcomes, particularly those in Queensland, and to quantify and better understand the geographical inequalities in cancer outcomes.

Current research projects:

  • Descriptive reports on patterns of cancer in Queensland
  • Detailed trend analysis for specific cancers
  • Geographical differentials in colorectal cancer (CRC) survival
  • Investigating differentials in health, treatment patterns, secondary cancers and mortality
  • Spatio-temporal modeling of cancer data in Queensland using Bayesian methods
