Cancer Council Queensland’s Nurse of the Year Campaign is a state-wide, community-based series of educational and fundraising events that run over seven months, from March until October.

The Nurse of the Year Campaign is your opportunity to:

  • Make a difference in the campaign against cancer;
  • Create community awareness about preventing cancer;
  • Enhance personal and professional development; and
  • Raise the profile of your hospital in your local community.

The Nurse of the Year Campaign is not just about fundraising, nor is it a quest, and it is not limited by age, gender or level of professional qualification.

Congratulations Amanda on an oustanding campaign!

Since the campaign began in 1971, Nurse of the Year Campaign entrants have raised more than $31 million for Cancer Council Queensland’s programs.

Today, fundraising for Cancer Council Queensland is simple with pre-arranged events such as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Daffodil Day and Relay For Life.

Cancer Council Queensland will equip you with the resources you need to participate in these events. Alternatively, you are free to organise your own events such as dinners, raffles, sausage sizzles, garage sales…your are only limited by your imagination.

Most importantly, each Nurse of the Year entrant sets their own level of involvement based on their work, family and other commitments.

Prevention and early detection

Informing the Queensland community about the prevention and early detection of cancer is a major role in Cancer Council Queensland’s efforts to control cancer. Often the only authoritative voice in small regional communities on issues of cancer education is a Nurse of the Year entrant. Over the past 37 years, Nurse of the Year Campaign entrants have delivered the message of cancer prevention and early detection to thousands of Queenslanders in all areas of the state.

Whether you speak at a local school, business or community organisation about the importance of 'Slip! Slop! Slap!' or organise a stall with brochures on early detection at the local show, you will play a vital role in The Cancer Council Queensland’s efforts to defeat cancer.

The Nurse of the Year Campaign is as challenging as it is rewarding. It provides our entrants with personal and professional development, the benefits of which will last a lifetime. As a nurse, you can make a real difference.
