Questions you might ask on The Cancer Council Helpline

“I have just been diagnosed with cancer.  Where can I go for support?”

There are many avenues of support available to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. Some people want practical support such as assistance with finding accommodation or purchasing a wig, while others want to talk with someone who can answer their questions or just listen to them.  The Cancer Council Helpline staff are trained professionals with experience in cancer care and are there to talk with you and/or help lead you to support services available in your community.

“My mother has just died from cancer and my young children are really upset. I am not sure how to help them. What do you advise?”

There are many ways that you can assist your children with their grief. The Cancer Council Helpline staff are there to talk with you and offer support and guidance. They can also offer support by suggesting books and resources that may be of assistance. If professional counselling could assist, they can refer you to The Cancer Council Queensland's Cancer Counselling Service.
